I had such an awesome time reading Relentless, and this book is one of the best releases of 2021 so far. While I did receive a physical copy of Relentless, I ended up enjoying this book in its audiobook format instead. Allowed to remain on the plane, Gentry finds himself thrust into the middle of a firefight when the plane lands in England. I loved seeing the opposition put their plan into action to hunt down Gentry, and it was really great to see all the sides of this adventure. I really liked the sound of Mission Criticals plot synopsis and was glad that I picked up a copy of this book, as the action and intrigue did not stop the entire time. Court Gentry goes to the town of Ushkovo in Russia to assassinate Gregor Sidorenko, a Russian crime boss and his former handler who wants him killed after a double cross from an operation in Sudan. However, with the CIA still relentlessly pursuing his every move, Gentry reluctantly agrees to take on their crazy mission, which will see him surrender his $4 million dollar reward for the kill, and instead hand the Sudanese President over to the CIA in return for a get out of jail free card. Gentry died, aged 83, on July 10, 2014, in . Captain America directors, Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are set to write and direct the film, while Joe Roth and Palak Patel will produce. I was very impressed with some of the unique elements of this book, particularly those involving tradecraft, espionage work and covert combat teams. Sierra Six comes highly recommended from me and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next Greaney book. He took the covername of the Gray Man, a name that grew to legendary status with each success. I also must really highlight the use of long-running supporting character Zack Hightower, who was an excellent inclusion in the historical storyline. Greaney obviously has a large amount of knowledge about the espionage world, and I loved all his depictions about the inner workings of spy agencies, rogue operatives and the various tricks and techniques that agents employ. I am planning to keep an eye out for Greaneys next book, Red Metal, a really cool-sounding war thriller that is coming out in July this year. Court Gentry grows up with a father who works as a SWAT team instructor and who is an expert weaponist training hundreds of men to defend and kill. Thanks to the authors use of multiple viewpoints, you get to see inside the heads of several of the Consortiums leaders, and you swiftly learn that they are an extremely vile and irredeemable bunch of characters who the reader instantly roots against. Greaney does a good job introducing the key parts of his protagonists personality and history throughout the novel, and you really get a good sense of who Gentry is. "The first agent disappearance was a puzzle. European Court of Human Rights This infection reduces his reaction speed and physical prowess throughout the book and forces him to seek continued medical care, all of which makes his mission even more dangerous and problematic, and which really raises the stakes for the entire book. When Six unwittingly uncovers dark secrets about the agency, he's forced to go on the run. And he always hits his target. I also loved a couple of fun little cameo appearances and throwaway lines that reference some of the earlier books, including the quick but enjoyable inclusion of the antagonist from the original novel. With an alternate email! Determined to save his friends family, Gentry is forced to traverse the entirety of Europe to get to his target. Curtis Marsena "Curt" Gentry (June 13, 1931 - July 10, 2014) was an American writer, born in Lamar, Colorado . Thats a problem for tomorrow. Will he be able to abide by his strict code of ethics in this senseless world where lines are blurred and motives hidden? I really enjoyed seeing Gentry use his espionage tradecraft to tear through the less competent criminal elements at the lower end of the group, before going up against the better trained, elite enforcers of the organisation. While still secretly working for the CIA as part of an off-the-books operation, Gentry still occasionally engages in freelance assassin work, only accepting contracts on some of the worlds most evil and corrupt individuals. youtube At least you saved all of my first typings so I could type this bug report at the end. Court is a bit similar to Will Cochran, Jonathan Grave, and Orphan X. Snyder does a brilliant voice with all the characters featured within, and you get a good sense of their various emotions and feelings, especially during some of the more action-packed sequences. The narrative switches between the two timelines every chapter or two and you get a great sense of what is happening in both well-established storylines. I felt that the dark subject of human trafficking served as a rather intriguing plot point for this novel, and it definitely worked well with the spy thriller genre of the series. Worth the wait between his "Clancy Universe" books. Haunted by what he has seen and the realisation that his actions may have led to terrible repercussions for the captives he encountered, Gentry makes it his objective to relocate and free the women, no matter the cost, while also causing as much pain to the people responsible. I love the idea of Court Gentry having to keep a civilian alive from the various forces coming after him, especially when it puts Gentry back on the radar of the CIA who are always looking for him. Zoya is also a good protagonist for this story; lets face it, a sexy Russian agent never goes amiss in a spy thriller. Real Name The protagonist, Court Gentry (and I have to point out how much I love that name), is a solid and dependable badass agent to anchor this series. 1 of 5 stars 2 of 5 stars 3 of 5 stars 4 of 5 stars 5 of 5 stars. Rate this book. All these characters were extremely impressive and I had a brilliant time getting to know them throughout the course of Sierra Six. His skill did not prove enough to keep him out of trouble, however, and at eighteen he got into a skirmish that left three Cuban drug dealers dead. ". I found this worked extremely well to tell a complex narrative, as the reader gets to see what everyone, from the mastermind of the conspiracy to members of the various kill teams hunting the protagonists, is doing and thinking. Council of Judges of Ukraine I particularly appreciated the slimy and cocky voice that he gifted to main antagonist Lloyd, which gave the man a cowardly, bureaucratic voice (it honestly reminded me a little of Cyril from Archer), and really helped to make him even more unlikeable. Court Gentry is the Gray Man, a rogue CIA operative turned legendary assassin with a conscience, who is known and feared across the globe for his ability to overcome the odds and kill the most well-protected target. In four years he had satisfactorily performed twelve operations against terrorists and terrorist paymasters, white slavery profiteers, drug and illegal weapons runners, and Russian Mafia kingpins. Not only do we get to see Court Gentry do some of his earliest work for the CIA, but you also get to see his first interactions with key supporting characters, including Matthew Hanley and Zack Hightower. Publisher: Audio Studios (Audiobook 29 September 2009). What kind of a jerk am I? This forces him to engage in a less sophisticated battle against his opponents, relying more on his skills than having any backup or intelligence, which I thought made for a much more credible narrative with higher stakes. Zack is always a great foil to Gentry, and I really enjoyed seeing him interact with the younger, cockier version here, especially as it shows some of the earlier dynamics between them. Aside from the books he wrote with Clancy, Greaney has his own series, the bestselling Gray Man series, which started in 2009 with the authors debut book, The Gray Man. The author dives into this characters background quite a bit in Mission Critical, and her connections to the plot and the antagonists were explored in an intriguing manner. Greaney does something a little different for this book and features an excellent and intricate split timeline narrative, with the book divided between the events of the past when Gentry was part of Golf Sierra, and the current events in Mumbai which see Gentry again contending with the target of this original mission. His character has depth, thoughtfulness and even a small soft spot beneath his cool, stone-like exterior. On my "can''t wait to read" lists. To those who lurk in the shadows, he's known as the Gray Man. While a large part of the book is told from the third person, Greaney utilises a first-person perspective for the scenes that Gentry is narrating. Court Gentry had worked for Sir Donald Fitzroy for four years, beginning within a few months of the night the CIA indicated that they no longer required the services of their most experienced and successful man hunter so they put a bomb in his car, a hit squad in his apartment, and an international arrest warrant processed from the Justice Department, distributed through Interpol to every law enforcement agency on the planet. Over the last few years, I have been absolutely hooked on the incredible thrillers of Mark Greaney, who is easily one of the best authors of spy fiction in the world today. 0:44. Can Gentry once again overcome the odds to bring down his opponent, or will the Consortium and their influential allies be his undoing? This is a dynamite series, extremely well written, believable even when the events are unbelievable, fast-paced and captivating. Officially known as Special Detachment Golf Sierra, it became affectionally known, to those few who knew about it all, as the Goon Squad. Greaney always delivers on fun and compelling spy thriller storylines and this one sounds particularly good. Having the women work to free themselves was a nice touch by Greaney, and I particularly loved one scene where several of the women defied typical convention and helped save Gentry, with realistic explanations for how they obtained their relevant skills (thank goodness for equal opportunity Eastern European military training). The exciting narrative, beautifully descriptive and intensely real scenes across the entire series will leave you with more than just another clichd CIA assassin story; The Gray Man series goes above and beyond the well-worn and predictive narratives of fictional thrillers and gives great credibility to a genre often overlooked in literature. URBANA, Ill. - An initial trial date in June has been scheduled for a New Berlin, Ill., man, Scott A. Gentry, 57, who appeared in federal court on April 12 for arraignment on federal child pornography charges. However, Court Gentry remains moral and ethical in an unmoral world, or at least as moral as a hitman can be. He spent sixteen years in covert operations. But it does! I also really enjoyed the focus on Pakistani intelligence and the Indian underworld, which proved to be very fascinating. Gentry quickly learns that there is considerable effort to see him dead and the plotters reach high into the American government. Barely managing to escape with his life and convinced of a larger conspiracy at foot, Gentry convinces Hanley to send him to Berlin to uncover the truth. Before he knows it, hes being hunted by everyone from the Russian mafia to the CIA. I finally got the chance a few days ago to read the first Gray Man novel, which was also Greaneys debut book, and I am extremely gad that I did as The Gray Man proved to be an exceptional novel with boundless action. One Minute Out by Mark Greaney is an outstanding and exceptional new thriller which takes the reader on a dark and action-packed adventure around the world. He becomes rather curious, though, when as soon as he gets off the plane on a very secret mission, Chinese agents try to kill him. Gentry and his team are soon the only agents who can stop a devastating attack that could bring the West to its knees. Publisher: Sphere/Audible Audio (Audiobook 16 February 2021). Throughout the course of the novel Greaney shines a light on this foul trade, as his protagonist encounters this evil in Europe and deals with a number of characters affected by it. While this book is very grim and uncomfortable at times due to its darker subject matter, this proved to be a compelling and enjoyable thriller, which is probably my favourite Gray Man novel so far. I am a big fan of the Gray Man novels, having been blown away by his first book, The Gray Man, while also deeply enjoying his great recent entries in the series, including Mission Critical, One Minute Out (one of my favourite books and audiobooks of 2020), Relentless (one of my favourite books and audiobooks of 2021), and Sierra Six (one of my favourite books and audiobooks from the first half of 2022). For Court it's easy to switch off his emotions to get the job done, which in most cases is kill a mark. As Zoya attempts to find out who is really running the organisation, she finds herself once again in the crosshairs of her former masters in Russian intelligence, who send their most lethal assassin to kill her. Could be as simple as send me a link in email about this book or series, if you dont wand to create a system for it. Its something we are looking into with a new, big project in the future where youll hopefully be able to do that, and much more. As a result, I was rather keen to check out the next release from Greaney when it came out, and I have been looking forward to this book for some time. He was sentenced to a long stretch in prison. Greaney has always had a talent for writing explosive and powerful action scenes, and Relentless contains some impressive examples of this as the protagonists duke it out with a wide range of enemies across the world. But when he takes revenge upon a former employer who betrayed him, he exposes himself to something he's never had to face before: a killer who is just like him. If I were able to still have kids, they would be named Courtland and Gentry only because Violator wouldn''t go over very well :). Every scene he is in is a lot of fun, mainly because he is such an annoying figure in them, and this ensures that the reader is constantly barracking for Gentry, hoping that he wins so that he can punch Lloyd in the face. After a half-decade of being on the outs with the Agency, Court Gentry is again in its good graces and on a mission to Hong Kong. Expert reviews of the latest and the best in Fantasy, Historical Fiction, Science Fiction and Crime Fiction from an Australian reviewer. Gentry took the toughest of the tough ops, went into bandit country alone, faced legions of enemies, and built a reputation and a bank account that was unrivaled in his low-profile industry. Sierra Six was an absolutely thrilling read and I had an outstanding time getting through the impressive and addictive narrative. Watching Gentry join a team and try to play nice with others was a captivating part of the book, and it was fascinating to see the rookie Gentry get rattled by stuff hell become much more used to in the future. I liked how the past and modern-day storylines both featured great female side characters who helped move the story along in their own distinctive ways. Just as the Greeks did when faced with invasion by Alexander, the Russians . Even with such a limitation, the call for Gentry's talents grew as each mission proved more challenging than the one before.
